Gold trades almost around the clock, but not all hours are equal. Volume and volatility concentrate in the London session and peak during the London–New York overlap — roughly 13:00–17:00 UTC — when the world's two largest financial centres are open together. Spreads are usually tightest and moves strongest here.
The quiet Asian hours (Sydney and Tokyo) tend to be slower for XAU/USD, with thinner liquidity and wider spreads. That doesn't mean gold never moves then — major news can hit any time — but for most strategies the London and New York hours are where the opportunity concentrates.
Why sessions matter for an EA
